Our DNAW EAST students hard at work!
Our students over at Earthart just had a little exhibition showcasing their work for the Future Detroit project! They’ve been working with a variety of mediums from sketching out their design, to wire building and painting their environments for the whole set-up!
DNAW-E students continuing to work on their previous project of creating a portrait of someone who has significantly shaped their lives. The goal was to use mixed media to stray away from the expected and create a 3 dimensional piece using various materials!
We’re back and hope everyone had a restful break!

Future Cities: Detroit
Students at Bunche Elementary-Middle School collaborated on a 3D model of what they think Detroit should look like in the future.
Over the course of the semester, they explored media portrayals of Detroit and examined ways to change the city so in the future, positive stories would far outweigh the negative. As their ideas developed, students worked together to build a 3D model of Detroit, carefully including components that would encourage positive activities (green space, efficient public transportation, local shopping options, etc…).
Here is an update from one of our Cohort G: Future Detroit programs:
This class’s approach is to have each student build their downtown “block” and the final blocks will be assembled together to complete the Future Detroit. (The blocks are pizza boxes that house the components of the projects in progress and will serve as the ground once students are ready to assemble.)
