Students in our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) programs across Detroit are challenged to think outside the box and explore new ideas. Students in this class covered everything from the science of mixing colors to creating 3-D characters that were animated and transformed into video shorts.

On Monday, March 17th, students in one of our youth photography programs experimented with creating works of art out of green food for St. Patrick’s day. When everything was said and done, they were encouraged to take the remaining foods home to eat.

Art & Gardening are coming together in our Henry Ford Academy: School for Creative Studies after school Art and Gardening class. In these sketches, students are planning and developing new ideas for trellises in their school garden. After discussing ideas, students built small scale models of their trellises to bring their ideas to life.

This group mural was created by students during the culminating event celebrating Black History Month at the Henry Ford Academy School for Creative Studies. It took the students 1.5 hours to complete from start to finish. During performances by other student groups, our students worked on the mural outside the view of the audience. When the performances were complete, the 20’ moveable wall was turned around for all to see. It was received with an audible gasp of wonderment and amazement at what the students had just completed. The mural has since been sealed and will be wrapped in plastic to preserve the student work.

"DNAW makes an effort to select instructors who will be a right fit for the kids. As a parent, I value the combination of great art instructors who understand the students from an artistic perspective, and the steady presence of a licensed social worker who understands the students from an emotional perspective."

Mrs. Linda Lewis, long time DNAW parent shared some wonderful words with us about the impact of the program on the lives of her sons. The eldest is now an undergraduate student at Bowling Green State University, the youngest is currently enrolled in DNAW.

Community Arts Partnerships at the College for Creative Studies

Community Arts Partnerships (CAP) would not exist without the College for Creative Studies (CCS). Check out our corner of their website and explore what else the school has to offer.

CCS offers programs for all ages and CAP strongly recommends stopping by for one of our Info Sessions to see the school for yourself and see how you might fit into everything we do.
